Eldemire and Hess making news

While the Copperheads haven't even met yet, the GLSCL is not waiting up. A fairly busy weekend is already in the books for the league, and Lima leads the way at 2-0. Follow all of the action at the league's website, which can be reached here.

It was an eventful weekend for the Copperheads as well. To the news...
  • Gauntlett Eldemire will try out for Team USA and thus will not be in Athens to start the season, and he may not be here at all. For all the details, click here.
  • There is a lot of stiff competition, and only 22 of the 41 guys who will try out will be selected. However, Eldemire could very easily stick. He has power, can play any outfield position, can hit anywhere in the lineup and is a fast guy. Good luck to Gauntlett.
  • Kevan Hess has signed with the Detroit Tigers organization, so his Copperheads' career is over. I am working on getting an interview with the Bronco-turned-Tiger, and I will hopefully have it up on the podcast soon.
  • Assistant coach Chris Moore and Copperheads board member (and Ohio head coach) Joe Carbone were two of the many coaches in Omaha this weekend for the College World Series.
  • The 2009 version of the Copperheads will meet for the first time tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at Bob Wren Stadium. The rest of the day will include getting their equipment, moving into the apartments and having their first practice.
  • The Green and Gold Scrimmage will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, and it is scheduled to be a seven inning game with a normal batting practice session beforehand.
That is it for us. Stay tuned for some more broadcasting information, as the opener is just three days away.
