Copperheads vs Locos - Game 2

After taking game one, Southern Ohio looks to ride the momentum of a sweep of #1 seed Lima into the playoffs . David Starn will get the start for the Copperheads as Derek Carnadore will go for the Locos.

  • 9:20 - Game 2 is underway. New shortstop Adam Wamsley commits an error but no damage is done.
  • 9:26 - Derek Varnadore looks great in his first inning of work, retiring the side in order.
  • 9:35 - New pitcher Greg Frederick comes in to relieve. Lima has registered two hits so far, but the game remains scoreless.
  • 9:43 - Jeff May nearly hits one out of the park, but it's snagged right at the warning track. The score remains 0-0.
  • 9:58 - Lima scores first as a pick off attempt gets past Jeff May. Chris Sosebee soon follows with a sac fly to right, bringing in another run. The Locos now lead 2-0.
  • 10:07 - Wamsley knocks the first Copperhead hit of the game, but it does not convert to runs. Southern Ohio trails by two.
  • 10:39 - The fourth & fifth both go without much action as the Locos still lead 2-0 with two innings left.
  • 10:49 - The Locos get runners at the corners with one out, but reliever Nick Egan gets out of the jam to keep the deficit at two.
  • 11:10 - Marrero and Yakubik both deliver with pinch hits. Fowler gets the Copperheads on the board with an RBI single to left. Pinch-hitter Plata comes through with a sac fly to dead center and Thoma matches with an RBI of his own to to put Southern Ohio on top 3-2. Trent Moses and Jeff May add two more to give the Green & Gold a 5-2 advantage going into the final inning.
  • 11:21 - Zach Botjer comes in to close out the game as the Copperheads complete the sweep of Lima.
With the win, Southern Ohio improves to 18-16 on the year while Lima falls to 28-8. You can now follow the Copperheads as they begin postseason play on Tuesday in Xenia against the Grand Lake Mariners. Tune in to the first pitch at 3:00 p.m. at copperheadbaseball.com.
