Kidfest 2012!!

Kevin Noonan

Copperheads fans, there is another great opportunity to show support for the community this weekend. The 23rd annual Kidfest kicks off at the Convocation Center this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kidfest is an event hosted by Athens County Children Services that celebrates all children in Athens county.

The event has a multitude of activities for children some of which include The Columbus Blue Jackets Breakaway Tour, The Cooking Caravan, and Athens Irish Dancers. There is no doubt our beloved Homer will make an appearance as well!

Kidfest draws thousands of children annually for a day that promotes positive themes. Some themes of past years include: Fire safety, traffic safety, disability awareness and strong healthy families.

Kidfest is a fun event for children, but it also serves a charitable purpose, as proceeds are raised for special needs children in Athens County.

So, come on out to the Convo this Saturday for what will be a great event supporting a great cause!

Sandlot League Parade, Copperheads in the Making?

By Zach McDonie

Hello Copperheads fans! As spring heats up, the first pitch of the new season at Bob Wren Stadium draws closer and closer. The 2012 Southern Ohio Copperheads are thrilled to have your support and hope to see you out at the stadium this summer.

In the meantime, Copperheads faithful have a few chances to show their support over the next few weeks. The first of which comes this Saturday at the Athens Sandlot League’s Opening Day Parade. The parade will kick off at 10:00 a.m., beginning on Morris Avenue and making its way through East State, Carpenter, Court, and West Union streets. Come prepared to be entertained as floats representing the various levels of youth softball and baseball (manned by the Sandlot athletes) will take the streets.

Don’t forget to watch for our favorite mascot, Homer!! Homer will be making his way around the parade looking for some true Copperhead fans, so what better way to cap off your Saturday than by snapping a picture with him and showing some Copperhead pride?
Immediately following the parade, Opening Day ceremonies will begin over at West End Park. With beautiful weather on slate and Homer on the prowl for Copperhead fans, there is no better place to be this Saturday morning.

Dust off your green and gold gear and come out to support the Athens community. Who knows, you may be watching some future Copperheads out there!
